Holiday Happenings

Liliana has been opening one gift per day, leading up to the grand finale on Christmas day. Here is one of her favorites (mine, too). It's a FurReal pet chimpanzee that talks, drinks, burps and hiccups. So cute!

Last week, Liliana informed me that she does not like Santa Claus. Tonight Kris Kringle just happened to be at our neighbor's house, so we ventured out to join in the merriment. Even when Santa offered a toy, Liliana kept her distance. She seems to be smiling in this photo, but "happy" was not her sentiment about being in the same room with the jolly old fella.

The Most Wonderful Time of the Year

This is, hands down, the most wonderful time of the year. I love the holiday music, shining decorations, hustle & bustle and joyful, giving spirit that fills the air. Most of all, my heart sings to hear the name of Jesus so boldly proclaimed everywhere I go. For one month of the year, the words "God" and "Jesus" flow through the airwaves and store speakers without a second thought. I love it! If only every month could be celebrated this way!

Christmas, my child, is love in action...

Of course, I am also thrilled to be experiencing this holiday season as an expectant mother. It is a precious blessing. Thank you, Lord! As our ultrasound approaches, I am filled with hope that this time will be different--that we will see the image of a healthy, thriving baby on the screen. Fortunately, my symptoms are strong, and my body seems to be telling me that all is well. I have never been so happy to have 24-hour nausea, heartburn, tender "parts," and an aching back! What an unexpected and glorious gift.

Winter Wonderland

This has been a wonderful winter day. We played in the snow, went sledding, enjoyed hot cocoa and learned that our pregnancy is cruising right along. Praise the Lord, all is well!

My HCG level was 1782, just a bit shy of the desired 1800 mark. My labs were done a couple hours earlier than normal, and that may account for slightly lower number. All in all, we are thrilled to know our baby is healthy. Although we still have a long way to go, this is a good sign. I'll be six weeks on Friday, and we have 0ur ultrasound at 2:20pm that day.

Lab Tests Tomorrow

The weekend is coming to a close, and I'm looking forward to the results of my blood tests tomorrow. Despite my not-so-hot bloodwork on Thursday, my pregnancy symptoms (especially nausea and sensitivity to smell) are going strong. I'm hopeful that the baby is experiencing healthy growth and development.

My HCG level was 452 on Thursday, which means it should be around 1800 tomorrow. God willing, it will be right on target (or higher). I'm praying for good news. I can't imagine that God would provide this incredible miracle, only to take it away. However, stranger things have been known to happen.

Right now, I'm thanking God for this pregnancy and praying that we will meet and know this child on earth.

Christmas Party, Pregnancy & Adoption

Tonight we celebrated the holidays with church small group. Although just a few of us braved the elements (crazy amounts of snow), we had a ball together. The children played downstairs while the adults had great conversations and game time. The more we learn about our friends, the greater our love for our church family. What a blessing!

On to our pregnancy. Many people have been asking about our baby's due date. At this point, it looks like the pregnancy is five weeks along, which makes the due date in August. I'll know more on Monday. Despite the so-so lab results on Thursday, I've been experiencing many positive symptoms. So even though my heart is not at peace, I am optimistic that all is well.

It seems that inquiring minds also want to know if we're still planning to adopt. The answer: Absolutely! God has prepared our hearts for adoption, and we will continue the process regardless of what happens with the pregnancy. We've always desired a large family, and we will welcome and adore all of the children the Lord places in our family.

Updates

I just received my lab results from this morning. My progesterone level is great, thanks to the supplements. However, my HCG level is not as high as we had hoped. It is within the "normal" range, but somewhat on the low side. Please pray that this is just a temporary lull...and that all is well with our growing baby. I'll have another lab test on Monday morning. So, it's time to wait and pray (the story of my life). Thankfully, our calendar is full, and I have plenty of distractions.

I must admit that I'm taking this news pretty hard, even though everything may be fine. Things tend to have a negative slant due to our history of miscarriages & loss. Plus, my emotions are running high after being at the hospital & seeing my friend Kate. She is experiencing a difficult complication following her brain surgery. Reeling

I'm still reeling from our news yesterday. I feel like taking another pregnancy test just to make sure I wasn't dreaming. Thankfully, I have another blood test tomorrow to monitor my hormone levels. The results will be a much-needed confirmation, since this is such an unbelievable (but very welcome) situation!

Since this is a "high risk" pregnancy, we will undergo many tests and ultrasounds during the next weeks and months. Hopefully we will have nothing but good news and praise! I am so thankful for the well-wishing calls and emails we've already received. We especially appreciate your prayers. Thank you so much for praying on our behalf!

Liliana is so excited about her new brother or sister. She touches my tummy and says, "the baby is cute and cuddly!" Liliana is such a blessing to our family, and I can't wait to see what a nurturing and adoring big sister she'll be. Praise God for her and for this new miracle!

On to another subject close to my heart. I am currently at Kate's house with Stuart and Liliana, while Sandy (Kate's mom) is at the hospital. Stuart is napping and Liliana is enjoying the boys' toys. Although my pregnancy exhaustion is hitting me hard today, I'm glad to be able to serve my friends. If you feel led, please lift up Kate's health to the Lord. She has been in surgery since a little after 11:00am. Her spirits were bright & her sense of humor intact, but this is a heavy and serious surgery. It is my prayer that she be completely healed through this surgery and that her personality remains unchanged. Thanks a million for your prayers.

Holiday Miracle

Every day holds the possibility of a miracle.

I stand before you humble, amazed and honored to share a Christmas miracle. For so long we have hoped and prayed, waited and trusted. And in God's glorious timing, He has granted us the desire of our hearts. Yes, my friends, we are expecting a child! (Cue Halleluiah chorus.)

It has taken the entire day and three pregnancy tests for the reality to sink in. Part of me still doesn't believe it. At this point, my hormone levels look good. Progesterone was the exception, but it's always the black sheep..so I started a prescription supplement today. While Wade and I are absolutely thilled, we must also remain cautious. Keep in mind this is my fifth pregnancy, and we have eight unborn children in heaven. So we're taking it day by day, and we're calling for prayer.

Please boldly lift up this tiny life to our Lord. Pray that s/he is healthy and remains so to term. Please pray that my body will support this pregnancy, and that we will meet this child & know him/her on earth. We thank you, in advance, for your prayers and support.

Presents and Prayer

I'm an "it's better to give than to receive" kind of gal. In fact, I spend weeks--sometimes months--preparing special gifts to celebrate Christmas. Tonight I completed about 20 hand-made (not your grade school homemade, but your high-tech-with-a-personal-touch homemade) gifts. It's such a beautiful thing to see the finished result of hours of left & right brain collaboration. Just like a child pines for Santa, I'm looking forward to delivering these presents to my family members. 14 days and counting! Now that this giant project is complete, I can rest easy tonight.

Tomorrow night will be a different story. My dear friend is having brain surgery on Wednesday, and my mind and heart are with her. If you are so inclined, please pray for Kate--for successful surgery, no complications, total healing, and quick recovery. Also, please lift up her husband and three boys, that the Lord will grant them comfort, peace and rest. I know that God is working in their lives through this trial, and I praise Him for the blessings that continue to shine through.

Our Profile

Tomorrow is our home visit and final interview with Bethany Christian Services. After that, our home study will be complete! By the grace of God, we have had the diligence to tackle the agency's many requirements in the midst of this busy season. As a result, we will soon be off the networking program (waiting list) and in the active adoption program. That's music to our ears! Above is the primary photo that will appear on our online profile, which will go on Bethany's website as soon as our home study is approved.

We are thankful that God has brought us to this place in our lives, and we look forward to seeing how this situation will reveal His goodness and glory.

Hustle and Bustle

Do you ever feel like you're juggling so many projects that you need to pull a college all-nighter to catch up? I do. Between new clients, adoption preparations, household duties, event planning, Christmas shopping and caring for family & friends, I'm continually moving and shaking! Now I'm trying to add Christmas photos & cards to the mix. This is a busy season, alright! And I love it, every single stressful moment! 'Tis the Season!

Anniversary & Adoption

Today is our 5th anniversary! To begin the day, we went to Bethany Christian Services' office in Chesterfield and participated in our joint interview. It was an emotional and informative experience, and we left with a positive feeling about the process. Wade has his individual interview Monday afternoon, and mine is Wednesday...along with our home visit. Assuming our business references are sent in right away, our home study will be completed next week!

At this point, we are #1 on the waiting list. According to Aimee at BCS, we may move into the active adoption program (where we will be eligible for selection) within a couple weeks or months. That's incredible news! The process may still take many months, even years, depending on the available adoption situations and our criteria--which come together to make a "match." Our criteria are pretty narrow right now, and we will prayerfully consider each situation to see how God leads us. Ultimately, we know that God has chosen a child for our family, and He will guide us to him or her.

It's so exciting to know that we will soon be receiving information about real children that are being placed for adoption...and that our profile will be viewed by expectant mothers! During the next week, our challenge will be to refine our letter and profile so that it is ready to go on BCS's website. Once our home study is finished, our profile immediately goes online (even though we'll still be on the waiting list). And if an expectant mother chooses us from the group of profiles, we will automatically move into the active process of adopting our child.

Hollywood Christmas

Time for a tea party! Tonight was our annual Candlelight Advent Tea at church. This was my first year hosting a table, and it was a delight! The theme was "Hollywood Christmas," and even though those two words don't have much to do with one another--it was mahhhvelous, dahling! At the very last moment, the group decided to get wacky and wear formal attire. What a perfect opportunity to dust off that old bridesmaid dress. Even though we were the only divas in evening wear, we had a ball. Thanks to my co-hostess, Suzanne, and lovely ladies: Stacy, Hope, Rachel and April. You all made the night so special!

A Heavy Heart

Tonight we returned from our annual Thanksgiving holiday in Mississippi. We enjoyed a fun(and food)-filled week with family and friends.

After nine hours in the car, I'm so glad to be home sweet home. This has been a bittersweet day for me. While my time with Wade and Liliana was joyful and precious, the weight of a very heavy heart has burdened me.

This morning I learned that my dear friend's battle with cancer has intensified. My heart aches for her, and I have not been able to get her struggle off my mind. Our families are very close, and it saddens me to see them experience such pain. I'd take this affliction upon myself, if I could. All I can do is lift her up to the Great Healer and ask Him to care for her.

Thankfully, God understands our prayers even when we can't find the words to say them. In times like this, I find comfort in the following passages...

God stands fast as your rock, steadfast as your safeguard, sleepless as your watcher, valiant as your champion. ~Charles Spurgeon

The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases. His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness. Lamentations 3:22-33

It is well. It is well. It is well with my soul!

The chorus of "It is Well" has been playing in my mind all day long. And all is well here. I have recovered from the rough weekend and I am counting my many blessings. My sights are fixed upon the winter season, and my two favorite holidays are just around the corner. Thanksgiving is such a beautiful time of remembrance and gratitude. And Christmas (and the whole month leading up to it) is a wonderful opportunity to reach out to others and give, give, give! More than anything, of course, it is a season to celebrate our savior in grand fashion. What's not to love!

Mmm...I can already smell the turkey.

Birthday Blues

I'm think I'm going to change the date of my birthday. Okay, that's technically impossible...so I guess I'll change the date it's actually acknowledged. I'd stop recognizing it altogether if it weren't for family members who would loudly protest. For some reason, the actual anniversary of my birth is always one of the worst days of my year. And it's not that I'm disappointed because I start with high expectations. The days are objectively awful.

Two years ago, my birthday was accompanied by the loss of a baby, the loss of a cousin and the diagnosis of my father's cancer (that took his life seven weeks later). Last year was a little less rotten, and this year I'm battling a migraine and a miserably persistent upper respiratory infection. To make matters worse, I thought I just lost my husband. Never fear: Wade is fine...but due to a phone snafu, I was worried sick. Now the tears won't stop flowing, and emotional outbursts are not good for a stuffy nose and aching head.

At 4:30pm, I'm going to call it a day and postpone any semblance of celebration. My age will change today, and I'll acknowledge it on...Thanksgiving. Why not?! That's an uplifting holiday with plenty of fun, food and family. Thanksgiving it is!

Okay, please pardon my brief, but cathartic ranting. On a more positive note (I truly am an optimistic person, despite my current doldrums), I am thankful for another year of life's precious lessons, a strengthened faith and exceptionally beautiful family and friends. 1 John Bible Study

Our wonderfully rich study of 1 John came to a close tonight. Pictured above are the lovely ladies whose hearts have been knitted together through eight weeks of study, sharing and prayer. This experience has profoundly impacted my life, inspiring me to love with a more thankful and joyful heart. I praise God for beautiful relationships and powerful lessons.

Road Trip

Last week, Liliana and I took a road trip to Indiana while Wade headed to Minnesota for business. Even in the midst of fighting a brutal virus, Liliana and I had a grand time singing, chatting and laughing during our five-hour adventures in the car. I am so blessed to have such a great passenger, especially with the amount of traveling we do! She colored and created "sculptures" with stickers as we drove, and she didn't utter a single complaint during the entire trip!







We had a ball with family during our weekend away, and Liliana had many opportunities to play with her cousins, Luke and Clayter-potater. Above: Uncle Russell with a three-kid pile up. Left: Cousinly love. Liliana and Luke hugged each other twenty or thirty times, making sure to fall on the floor together while locked in an embrace. What a riot!






We also celebrated my mom's birthday--Happy Bithday, Mama Joy! While browsing the best dollar store in the midwest, I allowed Liliana to choose her own gift for Grammy Joy. After scanning the aisles for twenty minutes, she made her decision... costume glasses with Groucho Marx eyebrows & mustache. Of all the quality merchandise she could have chosen! As it turned out, the present was a big hit with the entire family. I snapped photos of each child (an adult) wearing the silly glasses!

Our time in Madison was short, but sweet. Liliana already misses everyone so much that she has been asking to go back. I have a feeling she's going to enjoy road trips more than Mommy and Daddy (and that's saying a lot)!

Excited and Encouraged

As we work to complete our home study for adoption, each day brings greater excitement and renewed resolve. Wade and I can't wait to see what God has in store for us! After 20 hours of migraine misery, one tablet did the trick. I heart Maxalt.

Irresistable Germ Factory

Thanks to my inability to stop kissing my sick child, I have been stricken with an upper respiratory infection (that's fancy talk for "a cold"). I'm exhausted. In the wise words of my 3-year-old germ incubator, "I'm running out of entergy" (yep, energy with a "t"). That's what she said to me this afternoon, and I definitely second that emotion. It's 8:41--time for bed.

Touring the State Capitol

We recently took a day trip to the Missouri state capitol, Jefferson City. The purpose of our visit was to obtain our criminal background checks as part of our home study for adoption. While we were there, we also had an opportunity to tour the capitol building. Since I'm not a history buff, I was surprised to find how much I enjoyed the experience. The building itself was fascinating, from the grand statues and steps leading into the entrance to the lovely murals on the ceiling and the fossils embedded in the walls and floor. What an architectural gem!

While I took in the beauty of the capitol and the quaint little shops downtown, Liliana found pleasure in the simpler things. She particularly enjoyed experimenting with the echo of her voice in the capitol building while looking for every opportunity to climb steps (and there were hundreds). While we waited at the office for our records, she played for at least 30 minutes with stones on a retaining wall. I never cease to be amazed at the things that interest her and the way her sweet 3-year-old mind works. She is such a little dynamo!

What's Not to Love?

There are so many things that I love about my daughter--most things, in fact. One of her really cool traits is that she absolutely adores babies and animals. Every time she spots one of God's little creatures, she goes totally gaga. Her entire demeanor changes, and she becomes enamored. It's such a special sight. I love her compassion and adoration for so many reasons. And it sure will come in handy when a new brother or sister arrives on the scene! Pictured above: Liliana enjoys a "kiss" from Holly, a neighbor's pug (who, incidentally, was dressed up as a bunny for Halloween). So cute!

The Simple Pleasures

After partying with our church family, it was a mad dash for candy in our subdivision. Liliana totally got into the trick-or-treating scene, racing from house to house like it was a timed event.
She worked so hard to reach every doorbell and waited patiently on the doorstep looking so sweet and angelic. Then, as soon as each unsuspecting neighbor placed a bowl in front of her, she grabbed the biggest handful she could muster and immediately stuffed it into her bag. One person asked her, "How many would you like?" And without skipping a beat, she exclaimed, "Too many!"

As we moved from house to house, Liliana bravely approached the "spooky stuff" while calmly telling herself, "Don't be afraid. God is with you." Much to my surprise, she walked right up to the home with the creepiest scene like it was no big deal. To be honest, I was a little weirded out by the critters, so she was fearless.

At the end of the evening, she sat on the floor and enjoyed the spoils. She gathered all of the candy around her and joyously began throwing pieces in the air. What a joy. Even though Halloween is one of my least favorite holidays, seeing my daughters excitement and enthusiasm made this one of the best days of my life.

Wild West Fall Fest

Tonight our family saddled up for the Wild West Fall Fest, an evening of rip roarin' good fun! Here's my Cinderella in the arms of my cowboy before the big dance. Girls on the Block

Here I am with some of my favorite pals: Cathy, Jen, Victoria, and Stacy. The photo is a bit blurry, but the love comes across loud and clear! Wade and I are so thankful that God brought us to a community where our neighbors are some of our very best friends. What a gift!

Supernatural

Here's my little Elvira wearing her glow-in-the-dark vampire teeth. She received them yesterday at the birthday party, and she loves them. Little Dracula even brought them to our church event last night and wore them on the playground. Thank you, Clay and Victoria, for this lovely new fascination!

Tonight we attended a large Reformation Day service at Twin Oaks. Throughout the worship service, I was keenly aware of God's presence. At one point, I couldn't contain the tears--it was as if the breath of Jesus was all around me. The spirit moved me--especially as hundreds of voices proclaimed His glory in song. As one who is not inclined to the esoteric, believe me--God was undoubtedly in our midst tonight.

Another Super Saturday

Another eventful Saturday for our family as we rolled strikes at a "Cosmic Bowling" birthday party and participated in a "Chili Throwdown" at church. The day started with a great opportunity to bowl and dance and chow down with neighbors at the local Brunswick alley. Pictured left: Wade shows Liliana how to roll the ball, granny style. Bowling wasn't her thing, so she opted to eat popcorn, play with play-doh and "organize" the bowling balls while the rest of the group bowled. To each her own! Congratulations to Wade, whose 185 was the high score of the party people.

This evening, we joined our church family for a chili cook-off. I thought I'd keel over when our fold elder asked me to make the competition chili for our fold. After all, I'm just a novice in the kitchen. Well, not only was my chili a contender, but it won first prize! When I heard the results, I screamed in surprise and delight!

Snow Princess

Last night was our first appearance at the Kirkwood Halloween Walk. We went with a group of friends and enjoyed the kids in costume, trick-or-treating and chilly weather. Despite the drizzling rain, the evening was spooktacular fun. After an hour of cavorting for candy at local businesses, we were so cold and hungry that we decided to duck into a restaurant for some American eats. When did you first start thinking about adoption and why? Is infertility a factor in your choice? If so, what medical diagnosis or advice have you received? How long ago? Are you at present trying to conceive?

Adoption and the Bible

It is no secret that Wade and I are very excited about our call to adoption. What is not so well-known is how extensive and exhaustive the adoption process can be. This home study process has been an incredible opportunity to dig deep into our experiences and examine who we are, what we believe and how we arrived at this place in our lives.

The adoption process at Bethany is no easy task, and it is one that requires the applicants to really understand themselves and the true meaning of adoption. How perfect that we should be studying 1 John, which speaks about the greater definition of adoption--the means by which all believers enter into the family of God. What a beautiful parallel to the adoption of a child.

As we researched and prayerfully considered adoption, we encountered some questions & answers that were very helpful. Here they are:

Is adoption biblical?
Absolutely! The Bible is a story of our adoption by God. Adoption is the means by which all believers enter into the family of God. “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.” The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together. Romans 8:14-17

Is adoption a “second best” way to form a family?
Adoption is not “second best.” It is simply one way that God in His wisdom can choose for us to be parents. Whether one becomes a parent biologically or through adoption, the fact is that children are not a right—they are a gift from God. “Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord. Psalm 127:3

Does the Bible refer to adoption in a positive way?
Yes! The Bible always presents adoption as a positive, gracious act that is part of God’s plan.Moses was adopted by Pharaoh’s daughter and his adoption was part of God’s overall plan for the deliverance of Israel from Egypt. (Exodus 2:1-10)

When Esther’s parents died, Mordecai, her cousin, took her as his own daughter and adopted her (Esther 2:15). This adoption also led to a wonderful deliverance of the people of God!

And in a way, wasn’t Jesus an adoptee? Joseph, who raised Jesus as his own, was not His biological father. Joseph gladly accepted Jesus, providing Him with all the love, encouragement, and guidance that a son needs from a father. Luke1-2

Are there other models of adoption in the Bible?
Yes. The Bible tells us that there is only one way for us to enter the Kingdom of God—we must become God’s adopted children through Jesus Christ. …“having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will, to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He made us accepted in the Beloved.” Ephesians 1:5-6

“But when the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, that we might receive the adoption as sons.” Galatians 4:4-5

In adopting us through Christ, God shows the depth of His love. What a delightful model this presents to those who want to adopt a child as their son or daughter. God uses adoption to advance His Kingdom and to share the miracle of His unconditional love. The child adopted into a Christian family will have the security of knowing that God has been watching over and protecting him or her since before birth. “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; Before you were born I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations.” Jeremiah 1:5

The Road Ahead

Here are dear friends, Jenna and Allison, at a "welcome back" gathering this weekend. No, Wade and I did not undergo an accelerated adoption (or steal a baby)--I'm holding Jenna's sweet Jillian.

But since you brought it up (nudge, nudge- wink, wink)...we are one step closer to the child God has planned for our family. That's right! We submitted our formal application to Bethany Christian Services, and we've been accepted! We are now in the process of completing our home study, and we're very excited about the road ahead.

I would have mentioned this tiny detail a couple weeks ago, but we wanted to share the news with our families before making it "public." We have prayerfully considered and carefully researched adoption, and we are thrilled that God has called us to this journey. The Lord gave me a heart for adoption very early in life (about the same age I decided to call the 1-800 number to sponsor a child in Africa and found out that 10-year-olds aren't allowed to use their parents' credit cards). I am so grateful that my husband understands the Biblical basis for this ministry and what a gift it is to adopt one of God's children into our family.

We know that the journey may be difficult at times. The road to adoption can be bumpy and long (typically 2-3 years). And every child--biological or chosen--comes with his or her own special challenges. We know that quite well! And just as God set apart Liliana for our family and entrusted her into our care, He has ordained the other children that belong in our family. We have no doubt that we will love and treasure our adopted child(ren) just as much as we adore Liliana. Our hearts are bursting!

Super Saturday

What a great day! We made unforgettable memories at Eckert's Farm in Belleville and later had dinner with friends in St. Charles. At Eckert's, Liliana and I rode a camel. Yes, a camel! In addition to the great dromedary experience, we raced tractor trikes, flew planes, fed goats and picked pumpkins. Both this morning and the evening, we had a chance to grow closer with treasured friends. It doesn't get much better than this. We are so blessed to have such a cool church family!

West County Choppers

Our family has been enjoying beautiful autumn weather in St. Louis county this week. We've been playing outside on the playground and enjoying family walks around the neighborhood. Today Liliana displayed her scooting skills on the quiet streets of our subdivision. She was so advanced that we thought she should kick it up a notch! (See next photo.)

(No children were endangered in the making of this photo. The motorcycle was not in motion, and Daddy was standing next to her...just in case. Or as they say on TV, "Professional driver. Closed course.")

Three Cheers for October!

This has been a delightfully busy October. Our calendar has been exploding with activities, gatherings and parties. Having recently seen so many friends and neighbors, I feel wonderfully in touch with our community. The remainder of the month appears equally full, and I look forward to the memory-making opportunities that lie ahead.

Expecting...

Here we are at the Faust Park Carousel for a birthday party this afternoon. Thanks to Wade's silly antics, we got a genuine smile from Liliana. Oh, how I love those dimples! Thanks to Nicole for snapping the photo just in time.

When I consider our happy family of three, I wonder about the child God is preparing for us. We have so much love in our hearts, and I know that we will treasure our adoptive son or daughter just as we love Liliana. As the Lord prepares our hearts and home for adoption, we are so grateful that He has brought us to this crossroad. The journey has been treacherous at times, but we are overjoyed to be right where we are.

We pray that the Lord will continue to guide our steps and give us wisdom through this emotional, yet hope-filled process. Please pray for our child, wherever s/he is!

A Heart Full of Gratitude

I can't believe we're already well into October! With fall activities, Bible studies, small groups and soccer season in full swing, our weeks seem to fly right by. Plus, it must be the birthday month of the year, because everyone we know is having a party. Our calendar is so full, and our free time is so limited. Even so, it's times like these that life is so rich!

On to answered prayer...
My consulting practice has really taken off. I have been receiving a steady stream of referrals since the moment I started accepting clients. The most beautiful thing is that I am able to do all of my work from home during the afternoon or evening when Liliana is sleeping. It's so rewarding to help parents implement effective parenting strategies and support them through difficult situations. And though nothing compares to being a full-time mommy, it sure is a blessing to help others in their time of need.

I am so thankful for the opportunities God has given me. This is a wonderful life, and I am excited to see what is in store for us. Although we've experienced a great number of trials in the past few years, the blessings have been far more plentiful. I thank the Lord for bringing us through the refining fire so that we may experience life with hearts full of gratitude and eyes fixed upon Him.

The Path to Adoption

Today I am especially thankful for answered prayer. God is really showing us which direction to go with adoption, and He has opened doors of possibility that we never expected. We continue to pray that He guide our steps in this process.

True Hope

My Tuesday night Bible Study group is such a blessing in my life.
1 John is so rich and full of real-life application, and the women in the group are genuine, open and truly seeking God's face. I'm really looking forward to seeing what's in store for us as the study continues.

As my understanding of God grows, so does my love and adoration for Him. I cannot imagine living this life without the hope that comes from knowing the Lord. We live in a world filled with pain, suffering and sadness. But our sorrows are light and temporary compared to the glory that is to come. And even in times of sorrow, there's inexplicable comfort and peace that stem from a personal relationship with Christ. This week, my personal prayer is to be a blessing to others and to live as if Jesus were right here in the room.
