Preparing for Rain

My hope for a pregnancy is dashed this month. The ever-uninvited and unwelcome Aunt Flo made her monthly visit. Despite our efforts to keep her away, she just keeps showing up! I'm disappointed, but not surprised. It'll take a miracle for a natural pregnancy to occur. Thankfully, though, God is in the business of creating miracles every single moment!

I recently began taking a supplement called Female Reproductive Factor. It contains a number of vitamins and herbal blends that "promote female reproductive health." Many women swear by it for achieving pregnancy. I don't expect it to do what IUI and IVF couldn't...but I figured it's worth a shot. What's $60 compared to $17,000? I'll use it for three months, and go from there.

A few nights ago, I happened upon a movie called Facing the Giants. I thought it was just a football movie, but it turned out to be much, much more. One illustration given in the film really challenged me. In fact, I think it was the catalyst for my quest to overhaul our home. The message went something like this...

There was a great drought. Two farmers continuously prayed for rain. After praying, one of the farmer's went out and began to plow his field. Which farmer trusted and believed God would provide?

It is clear that the farmer who prepared his field was the one exercising his faith. I think about our own struggle with infertility. We have trusted that God hears our pleas, but do our actions show it? Have we been "preparing our field" so that we are completely ready when the answers come?

As we pray for God to send us another child, I realize I need to get to work. There is plowing to be done. I need to prepare our family and our home for God's provisions. And I need to pray in anticipation and expectation of God's good gifts.

Psalm 5:3 (NIV) - "In the morning, O LORD, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait in expectation.

Amen, Ramona! I can never be reminded to much to "pray in faith". It's so obvious, but often times I pray with underlying thoughts of doubt.
BTW, I'm so impressed with Liliana's water skills!!! Could she be cuter?? NO WAY!!

I've not yet brought myself to watch Facing the Giants. I rented it through netflixs this spring, right around the time of our loss. It sat here for a month before I explained to my husband why I couldn't watch it. But I love the analogy about the rain. I know God has called me to a season of preparation as well. I think maybe now I could put the movie back on my list to watch.

Thank you for sharing your journey so openly.
