Rising to the Challenge

A quick update on our little climber: I put the child-proof doorknob cover on the inside of her door last night. Although it didn't keep Liliana from climbing out of her crib, it did prevent her from roaming the upstairs. This morning, the monitor picked up sounds of Liliana moving around her room as soon as she escaped...so she had very little time for positive reinforcement before I went in to get her. Since we only have stuffed animals (no toys) in her room, I have a feeling she'll get bored and realize there isn't much reason to flee from the her crib. Time will tell! Thanks to those who offered suggestions and insight about our new challenge!

Once again new parent here.

Is there a downside to her getting out of her crib and playing with toys not just stuffed animals? If she is getting enough sleep and is quiet while she is playing is there any harm with her playing by herself?

I liked to turn the door knob around idea. I will have to file that one away.

I've found that if there are too many toys in the bedroom (especially once they are out of the crib, but while there are in one, too) that they toys serve as a distraction from sleeping and the kids don't want to go to sleep. Just what we've experienced with ours. As Katherine gets older, it's less of an issue (she's 4), but now that Elizabeth is sharing a room (she's 2), we've had to keep their room free of too many toys. Books and dolls is all that we allow in there for now. Otherwise, they just want to play!!! Just a parenting tidbit.

Yes! Finally some dialogue in the comment section.

I agree-toys in the bedroom are a distraction from sleep at this early age. That's why we only have stuffed animals (and most of them are high where she can't reach them).

Research shows that the bedroom should only be a place for rest. On a similar note, a TV or computer should never be in the bedroom of a child or teenager.
